A complete design/ build by Ennis Construction. This mountaintop home in Hartland Vermont was originally designed for 3 phases of construction. The first two buildings, forming an “L” were reassembled from a 1790’s post and beam barn from upstate New York and an 1840’s oak framed barn from central Massachusetts. Employing our usual green building and energy efficient practices, we added a passive solar heating system comprised of a free standing fireplace housed within a curved two story silo styled dormer addition with 14 windows. In addition, a gentle waterfall trickles down the back of the free standing stone fireplace façade into an indoor fish pond filled with aquatic plants, providing a natural humidifier in addition to the inbuilt humidifier in the entry way. The home features extra high R rated insulation in the walls and ceiling, a radiant floor heating system and heat recovery ventilation, plus solar panels that can provide all the Owners domestic hot water plus a good portion of the hot water for the radiant heat. Lustrous native black cherry trim and staircase provided the finishing touches. The hot tub sits nestled into a unique loft section overlooking the entertainment room, it also connects to the family room with a narrow walk way, that features some custom iron railings that run throughout the home.
